District level Consultative Workshop on upcoming Karrayyu Michille Gada Group's Mid-term Power Transfer Conducted
November 25, 2024 (Metahara), Labata Fantalle Organization(LaFO) has organized a consultative workshop on upcoming Gada Michille of Karrayyu participated key Metahara Municipality and Fantalle District key sector offices, Gada group representatives, East Shewa zone culture and tourism office representative, elders, women and 8 village representatives and other community segments with the support of a project “strengthening preservation of Indigenous cultural institutions and handcrafts skills”. The workshop objective was to bring together key sector offices(Metahara municipality and District administration), Gada group and Community representatives, elders and women and discuss on how stakeholders could collaboratively work together for the successful completion of upcoming “Buttaa Qalaa”, a half power term transfer of Gada Michille of Karrayyu that will be held in early January 2024. The workshop has attended by 84(15F) participants from key stakeholders including Gada Leadership from Karrayyu. Detailed discussion was held among the stakeholders on how to working together for the successfulness of Buttaa Qalaa ceremony of Karrayyu. Obbo Hawas Carcar, the head of Fantalle District Agriculture office and vice administrator of Fantalle District has remarked that we will promise to closely work with key stakeholders from District to village level by establishing committees for successful of this Buttaa Qalaa ceremony. The government has given emphasis for preservation of Indigenous culture and tradition. As a government we have the responsibility to stand beside our community for successful completion of the ceremony. From today onwards we will closely work with our key stakeholders and also Metahara municipality for successfulness of the ceremony. A committee oversees the process of the ceremony will be established soon. Obbo Addisu wako, Mayor of Metahara municipality remarked that “our community’s ceremony is our ceremony; we will do all we can for successfulness of this Buttaa Qalaa ceremony”. Besides, Michille Gada Group showed their colorful cultural and traditional dancing and songs at the workshop. Panel discussion led by Hawas Carcar Head of District Agriculture office and vice administrator and also Mayor of Metahara municipality was held among workshop participants where many issues contributed for successful completion of the Buttaa Qalaa ceremony discussed. The workshop was very interactive and colorful. The Oromia Media Network (OBN), Oromia regional state media, has participated and broadcasted the workshop and also interviewed Gada leaders, women representatives and community elders on the Buttaa Qalaa ceremony. The workshop concluded by various action points and finally by Gada leaders’ blessings.
